Robert Ntinga : Robert Ntinga is a South African artist who comes from the small rural community of Shongweni which lies on the outskirts of Durban, about 25 minutes from the city centre. Ntinga is a cheerful old gentleman, he is also a member of the South African Apostle Church. Ntinga is a sculptor, he spends his days working on a variety of wood carvings inspired by his local surroundings. Ntinga’s speciality is in traditional weapons such as the ‘knob kerrie’ an African club, and miniature spears and shields, as well as walking sticks. Like most African artists, Ntinga takes items which carry a practical purpose (like those mentioned above) and turns them into creative pieces, conveying not only Africa’s deep traditional roots but also Ntinga’s personal interpretation of his African heritage.
